About The Artist
My name is Jensen C Smith. I sketch, carve, ink, and print naturally inspired designs. I strive to make clothing that represents the free-flowing and active forms of marine life, and my main goal is to become more active in every aspect of my own life. I have been sketching, painting, and writing for as long as I can remember, and I love to create unique art no matter what medium I use. I started making block prints in high school and fell in love with the process. I made a series of different ocean animals I thought were cool. Aquatic creatures have always represented the brightest and most unique forms of nature to me. I was drawn to watch the fish, frogs, crawfish, and whatever else I could catch in the water as a child. These prints have sat in my closet for years, gathering dust. I have changed jobs several times and have been looking for work that really suits ME. The only way I have been able to do this is by continually becoming more active, growing, failing alot, and learning more. I had the privilege of attending a large church conference in July, 2023. I was still seeking out the way I need to take my life, and was praying for direction every day. I humbled myself and was given a message over and over in my head: "sell clothing". I have never been a person to care about fashion or to know much about clothing or selling anything, and it took me by surprise. I started to brainstorm ideas but nothing stuck until I got home and unpacked my luggage. While hanging up clothes I glanced at the corner to see one of my old prints, dusty, but still as fresh as the day I put it there. I had a simple thought: "That would look cool on a shirt" and that was when I finally knew what I needed to do. I hope you enjoy my products, I may not hand print every shirt, but the designs of my original ink paper prints are all hand crafted with care and purpose. I hope we all become more active and intrepid with each passing day. God is good, his natural world is gorgeous, and I hope you can see that unique beauty displayed in my art. I'll leave you with a bible verse that I aspire to make myself like in my life and in my art:
These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. - psalms 107:24
